Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's soccer fell by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday to #25 St. Mary's as an early barrage of goals from the Rattlers proved to be the difference on the evening.
The action started quickly in the Alamo city as the Rattlers earned an early corner kick inside the first three minutes and then went on to convert just over 30 seconds later to take a 1-0 lead.
Their offensive push continued in the eighth minute, as the Rattlers found the netting again, this time as a cross that went through the box was unfortunately deflected by a Patriots defender and went past the goalkeeper for an own goal.
Again the push continued on the offensive side, just four minutes later the Rattlers found their third and final goal of the evening to take a 3-0 lead just under 11 minutes into the game.
The Patriots began to mound a comeback, and in the 17
th minute they flipped the field quickly on a blocked shot before
Davis Mays jumped in on a perfect pass from teammate
Julian Smith to slot home his first goal of the season and cut the lead down to just two.
The two sides would post just two shots over the remainder of the half, leading to a critical final 45 minutes for both teams. The Patriots in that second half would be unable to find their footing on offense, posting just one shot on goal from Smith that was ultimately saved.
The Patriots will now look to reset after the 3-1 defeat on Wednesday as they next face Eastern New Mexico on Saturday. That game will double as Alumni Day for the Patriots, and also is a part of Fall Fest that will be taking place on campus for all fans and alumni in attendance. That contest with the Greyhounds is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff at Citizens 1
st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
