TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's soccer and Eastern New Mexico battled their way to a 0-0 draw on Saturday night on Alumni Day for the Patriots.
The Patriots offense outshot the Greyhounds 20-4 on the night, and they started that big advantage with a 9-2 margin in the first half. The Patriots took each of the first three shots of the match before the Greyhounds recorded the first shot on goal in the 32
nd minute.
Sam Coad broke through and took the first shot on net for the Patriots in the contest, but that ball was saved by the Greyhounds goalkeeper in the 37
th minute.
Heading into the second half, the Patriots built their advantage in the shots department even further, outshooting the Greyhounds 11-2 over the final 45 minutes of play.
Again the Patriots put together the early pressure, recording six shots in the first 12 minutes of action. Of those six shots, five were recorded by a different player. The big one came from
Keaton Hartman, who hit a low laser from outside the left corner of the box that the Greyhounds keeper was just able to get a hand on to keep out of the net. Just minutes later, it was
Omar Belahna who connected on a hard shot, but that one was just deflected inside the box and went wide.
The Patriots remained on offensive pressure throughout the remainder of the contest, with the Greyhounds only recording their two shots in the final 10 minutes of play.
In the closing two minutes, the Patriots picked up another pair of shots from
Julian Smith, but both just went wide of the frame and the game would finish in a 0-0 draw.
UT Tyler picks up another big point in the LSC race, bringing their total to four on the season. They will next take on Texas A&M International on the road on Wednesday night in a 5 p.m. start.
