LAST TIME OUT
Last week, the Patriots squared off with #25 St. Mary's on the road on Wednesday and Eastern New Mexico at home on Saturday. The Rattlers got the upper hand quickly, scoring their three goals of the match within the first 12 minutes to hold on to a 3-1 win. On Saturday, the Patriots outshot the Greyhounds 20-4, but were unable to find the netting in what ultimately ended as a 0-0 draw.
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
St. Mary's sits atop the LSC standings with 15 points and a 5-0 record. Midwestern State is in second place with 13 points and a 4-1-1 record. Behind them is a four way tie for the four remaining spots in the LSC tournament between Eastern New Mexico, St. Edward's, DBU, and Lubbock Christian. The Patriots currently stand with four points, but play three teams ranked ahead of them in the final four games.
THE DUSTDEVILS
Texas A&M International comes into the Wednesday matchup at a record of 2-8-2 overall and 0-5-1 in LSC play. They currently sit on a five game losing streak, and their lone LSC point came from a 0-0 tie to West Texas A&M back on October 2
nd.
The Dustdevils are averaging 1.25 goals per game on 11.3 shots per game. Their opponents average 1.92 goals per game on 15.5 shots per game. Their offense is led by Byron Aguilar and Dereck Espinal, both of which lead the team with four goals. Claudio Arias leads the program and is in his 21
st season with the program. He holds a 168-150-44 record with the Dustdevils and is 221-192-49 over his 26 season coaching career.
This will be the ninth meeting between the two teams, with the Patriots holding a 4-2-2 advantage overall and 3-1-1 in LSC matchups.
THE HILLTOPPERS
St. Edward's currently stands at 4-4-3 overall and 2-1-2 in LSC play. They are winners of their most recent contest and have picked up points in the LSC race in all but one of their conference matchups this season.
As a team, they average 1.91 goals per game on 15.9 shots per game, while their opponents are at a 1.45 goal average on 10 shots per game. Arthur Souza leads the team with six goals scored, and five different players have scored at least twice this season. Goalkeeper Kaleo Perez-Francis has gotten a bulk of the action in net, and he has allowed 1.09 goals per game while posting a 68.4% save percentage. Brian Young is the head coach of the program and is in his 18th career season, all with the Hilltoppers. He has posted a record of 173-118-40 in his career.
This will be just the third meeting all time between the two teams, with the Patriots holding a 1-0-1 advantage.
