Patriots Return to the Win Column With Sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville

Kota Hartman and Autumn Perry provided the bulk of the offense and UT Tyler swept past Texas A&M-Kingsville behind dominant first and second set wins

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – UT Tyler scored a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 27-25) sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville to return to the win column on Friday night.

The Patriots responded to their first loss in Lone Star Conference play in their most recent outing with convincing 25-16 and 25-14 first and second set victories and then a 27-25 third set win. Hartman led the effort with 17 kills, Perry posted 10 and Jackie Velzis added eight kills. Setter Saige Rivera notched 35 assists to help manufacture a steady Patriot offensive output.

UT Tyler opened 12-5 and 14-7 leads in the first and second sets, trailing only at the 1-0 mark of the opening frame. The Patriots put down 14 kills in just 25 swings in the first frame to cruise to a 25-16 win and then led by as many as 11 on two different occasions in the second set to win 25-14.

Texas A&M-Kingsville opened an 8-3 lead in the third after UT Tyler cruised through the first two frames virtually untested, but three different runs of three or more points for the Patriots midway through the set eventually tied the set up at 15-15 and then gave UT Tyler their first lead of the frame at 18-17.

The Javelinas fought back to gain the advantage on three different occasions, but another run of three unanswered points set UT Tyler up with match point at 24-22. Texas A&M-Kingsville tied the set twice from that point before UT Tyler finally strung together a pair of points to win 27-25.

Texas A&M-Kingsville committed 23 errors in the match while UT Tyler posted just 10. The Patriots put down 42 kills on 91 swings.
