DeMarias’s Late Goal Earns Draw Against West Texas A&M

Danny DeMarias scored his second goal in as many games in the 72nd minute to pull the Patriots even and earn a crucial point in LSC play.

CANYON, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's soccer will return home from their first LSC road trip with their heads up after picking up a 1-1 draw with West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon.

West Texas A&M held the early advantage as they punched in a goal in just the seventh minute of play to take the lead on what was the first shot of the game. The Buffs would hold serve for the first 27 minutes on that lead, but the Patriots found their offensive stride with 17 minutes left in the half.

They would reel off three shots on goal over a six minute stretch, putting plenty of pressure on the Buffs keeper in the final minutes of the half.

In the second half, the Patriots began play with another strong stretch of offense, putting up three shots over the first nine minutes as they continued their press forward.

The big moment for UT Tyler came in the 72nd minute, as Oscar Sosa drew a foul on a tough tackle just outside the left corner of the box, setting up the Patriots in prime territory. It was Danny DeMarias that stepped up to take the free kick from the dangerous position, and he let loose a low line drive that hooked its way just inside the left post for the goal and a 1-1 tie.

Both teams would trade shots in a frantic final few minutes, but the game would ultimately end in a draw as the Patriots pick up a key point on the road and round out their first week of LSC play with two points in two matches.

The Patriots outshot the Buffs by a 13-8 margin and held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Luan Rangel and Jordan Toy each put up a pair of shots to lead the team, and goalkeeper Alan Johnson made a trio of saves on the afternoon.

Next up for UT Tyler will be #12 Midwestern State. That match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex on Wednesday, October 9th.
