LAST WEEK

In their LSC opener, the Patriots faced off with DBU on their home pitch. The Patriots took a 3-0 lead in the contest with three stout goals, but DBU would claw their way back with three goals of their own in the later stages of the second half to salvage a point. On Saturday, UT Tyler faced off with West Texas A&M in Canyon for their first road match. The Buffs took an early lead, but a late free kick goal from Danny DeMarias pulled them even and picked up a big point on the road for the Patriots.

WHAT COACH JONES IS SAYING

On the opening week of LSC play: "It was encouraging we got three goals and we at least got a point against DBU. Against West Texas they got a goal early but we rebounded and got another point there. We're still getting time together as a group and it's really important that we fight and get points."

On the emergence of Danny DeMarias: "Danny is a great representation of not just perseverance but doing what coach asks me to do. He's been developing and growing internally, and he has taken our feedback and used it. He wants to compete and now he is starting to implement."

On this week's slate: "This week is going to be tough. We play a tough team at home and we play a tough team away, but that is the conference. Every team is going to have that challenge. For us we will prepare for Wednesday and Saturday and we will be ready for tomorrow at home."

THE LSC PICTURE

Through the first two games, St. Mary's and Oklahoma Christian hold the top spot with a pair of wins each. St. Edward's trails just behind with four total points, and Midwestern State is in fourth with three points. The Patriots and Buffs are in a tie for fifth with a pair of points each.

THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State will come into Wednesday's matchup as the #12 ranked team in the USC Coaches Poll, and they have played to a record of 6-1-2 overall this season. The Mustangs have wins over #14 Fort Hays State and #17 Southern Nazarene this season, and they are 1-1 in LSC play thus far.

Leading the way on offense has been Mere Escobar, who was named the D2CCA National Player of the Year for the 2023 season. He has 10 goals in nine games this season, and he has tacked on four assists. Liam Pritchard leads the team with five total assists in just seven games played. As a team they score 2.44 goals per game on 16.7 total shots per contest.

Michael Meachum is the head coach of the program and is in the midst of his seventh season. He has amassed a record of 94-20-11 overall in his career, and most recently he led the Mustangs to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2023.

THE CHAPS

Lubbock Christian currently stands at 3-3-3 overall and 0-1-1 in LSC play thus far this year. They are 2-1-2 over their last five matches, with wins over Hawaii Pacific and Northwest Nazarene. On Wednesday, the Chaps will face off with Texas A&M International.

The Chaps average 0.89 goals per game on 10.1 shots per game on the year. Their leading goal scorers are Nako Amare and Geoffroy Letienne, who each have two goals so far this season. In goal, Connor Pettigrew has started and finished all nine games this season. He has allowed 1.44 goals per game while posting a 73.5% save percentage.

Collin Cone is the head coach at Lubbock Christian and is in the midst of his third season with the program after serving as the head coach at LeTourneau. In his three seasons as head coach, he has amassed a record of 15-15-15 overall and he holds a record of 43-47-20 in his seven season career.
