LAST TIME OUT
Last week the Patriots had just one matchup, taking on Oklahoma Christian on Saturday evening at home. The Eagles took the advantage with the game's first goal in the second half, but just a few minutes later the Patriots answered with a fantastic goal from Niko Vasilieou. In the closing minutes, it was
Davis Mays who found a loose ball and played it to
Danny DeMarias, who slotted it home to give the Patriots a 2-1 win and keep them going in the LSC Tournament race.
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
With just one LSC matchup left on the conference schedule, St. Mary's has wrapped up the LSC title. Both Midwestern State and St. Edward's have locked in as second and third seeds, the order of which has yet to be determined. West Texas A&M has also locked in a spot, and the final two places remain up for grabs with both DBU and UT Tyler currently in position for those spots.
For UT Tyler, if they win Wednesday's game against Sul Ross State, they are in. If they lose and either Eastern New Mexico or Lubbock Christian wins, then that team will jump the Patriots. If the Patriots tie and the Greyhounds or Chaps win, then the conference will go to a tiebreaker to determine who will make it to the LSC Tournament.
WHAT COACH JONES IS SAYING
On the win over Oklahoma Christian: "It was one of those games we needed. I thought we did certain things well in the first half, but it wasn't good enough. In the second half we got more threatening and our red card mentality came on. We scored two goals and got a big win."
On the matchup with Sul Ross State: "We're just keeping our same theme of competing to win. At the end we want to make sure we work together and collaborate as much as possible. We're just going to make the most of that moment. This is a competitors dream and it's win or go home for the most part."
THE LOBOS
Sul Ross State is in their first year of membership in the Lone Star Conference and have an overall record of 6-9-1 and an LSC record of 2-6-1. They are currently on a two game losing streak with both losses by just one goal. As a team, they average 1.06 goals per game on 10.7 shots per game, while their opponents average 1.50 goals per game on 12.8 shots per game.
They are led on offense by Zachary Trimming, who has posted five goals and an assist this season. In net, it has been Benjamin Aviles seeing a majority of the action. He has appeared in 15 games, making 70 total saves for a save percentage of 76.1% and posting a goals against average of 1.51.
Bailey Guffin leads the program and is in his second season with the Lobos. He has amassed a record of 7-19-6 at Sul Ross State and a 11-27-7 record overall in his three year coaching career.
