LAST TIME OUT
On Wednesday in the season finale, the Patriots went on the road to take on Sul Ross State. The Patriots put together a solid game on offense throughout the contest, but were ultimately unable to break through and ended the game in a 0-0 draw.
That result meant that the Patriots would have to play the waiting game to determine if they qualified for the LSC Tournament, and with the results of the final games on Wednesday the Patriots earned the no. 6 seed.
A LOOK BACK
2021 was the last time that the Patriots made their appearance in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, as they took on St. Mary's in the quarterfinal round that season. The Rattlers jumped ahead early, but a goal from Michael Agyeman cut the lead down to one. Unfortunately that was the final goal of the game for the Patriots, as they fell 3-1 in the contest.
THE LSC TOURNAMENT
The Patriots have earned the no. 6 seed in the six team tournament. The top two seeds, no. 1 St. Mary's and no. 2 Midwestern State, each earn first round byes and move into the semifinals to be hosted by the Rattlers. The no. 6 seeded Patriots will face off with no. 3 seed St. Edward's on the Hilltoppers home turf. In the other quarterfinal, no. 4 seed West Texas A&M will host no. 5 seed DBU.
The winner of the Patriots and Hilltoppers matchup will move on to face Midwestern State, while the winner of the other quarterfinal will move on to face St. Mary's.
THE HILLTOPPERS
St. Edward's has played to a record of 7-5-4 overall and 5-2-3 in LSC play this season. They are scoring 1.63 goals per game this season on 14.5 shots per game, and they allow 1.13 goals per game on just 9.6 shots per game.
Individually, Arthur Souza leads the way with a team-high eight goals this season on 33 total shots. Christian Mezas is second on the team with four goals, and he has added a team-high six assists. In goal, Angel Ramirez has gotten the action as of late, now making seven starts on the season. He has allowed just six goals for a goals against average of 0.73, and has a save percentage of 84.2% on the year.
Patrolling the sidelines for the Hilltoppers is head coach Brian Young. Over his career, he has posted a 176-119-41 record in 18 seasons, all of which with the Hilltoppers.
