UT Tyler Sits Second, Looks to Keep Great Second Round Going After Day One

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's golf sits in second place and four strokes back of leader Midwestern State after Monday's second round of the Rattler Invitation was suspended due to darkness.

A lengthy frost delay at Dominion Country Club on Monday morning resulted in the inability to complete the 36 holes of play for the field. Junior Jay Shero, who sat out the fall semester for the Patriots due to an injury, shined in his UT Tyler debut and sits second on the individual leaderboard at seven-under par.

Shero posted a first round 68 and sits three-under par through 14 holes in round two.

UT Tyler is five-over par as a team for the tournament, but will continue the second round tomorrow morning with the lowest round going in the field at four-under par. The Patriots shot 297 in round one and have already overtaken DBU for second place in round two and sit just four strokes back of Midwestern State.

The field will complete the second round tomorrow morning and then immediately continue play into the third and final round.

Shero ranks second in the field with 10 birdies and sits three-strokes back of Odessa College's Sungyeop Cho for the individual lead.

Senior Carter Lewis birdied the final three holes of the day on Monday and sits two-under par through 13 holes in round two. Lewis carded a 76 in round one to sit in a tie for 14th place at two-over par for the tournament.

Junior Seth Campbell will be the third Patriot to continue play in his second round tomorrow morning under par as he sits one-under through 15 holes of play. Campbell sits in a tie for 25th place at five-over par on the individual leaderboard after a first round 78.

Carson Wray and Jackson Naeger round out the counting scores for UT Tyler at six-over par and eight-over par respectively. Wray posted a 76 in round one and Naeger a 77.

Junior Gage Burnham sits eight over-par as an individual competitor after a 75 in round one in a tie for 40th place alongside Naeger.

Round two will finish tomorrow morning and will be preceded by the third and final round.
