Bryant Strikes Out 12, #6 UT Tyler Notches Third Straight 8-0 Win Over Falcons

TYLER, TEXAS – Freshman Crimson Bryant matched the program record with 12 strikeouts in #6 UT Tyler's third straight 8-0 win over UT Permian Basin.

Bryant struckout 12 of the 17 batters she faced, including six out of the first seven of the ballgame, and gave up an infield bloop single as her only hit of the afternoon. UT Tyler's Division II best 40th straight home victory solidified a third straight run-rule sweep of the Falcons on Wednesday afternoon.

The Patriots moved to 16-5 on the year and 8-4 in Lone Star Conference play on the heels of their seventh-straight victory.

The UT Tyler offense started and ended strong, plating all eight of theirs runs in their first and last trips to the plate.  Junior Sam Schott went 2-for-3 and freshman Makayla Garcia 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored to highlight the offensive effort for the Patriots.

UT Tyler loaded the bases with the first three batters of the ball game and quickly opened a 1-0 lead on an Audrey Escamilla sac fly that scored leadoff batter Courtney Plocheck. The Patriots only managed to put across one more run in the frame on a passed ball a few batters later.

Bryant allowed her only hit of the afternoon in the top of the second on a leadoff pop up that landed just behind the circle and out of reach of the Patriot middle infielders. The freshman responded by fanning the next three Falcons.

She worked around a walk in the top of the third and then struckout the side in both the fourth and fifth innings.

UT Tyler finally added onto their 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth with six runs in the frame to close out the series with three run-rules of the Falcons. Garcia and Schott started the rally with one-out singles, and then scored on an RBI groundout by JT Smith and a single up the middle by Clarisa Zapata.

Zapata's pinch-hit single scored both Schott and Escamilla to make it 5-0. First baseman Madison Okano kept the two-out rally going with an RBI single of her own before a fielding error by the Falcons allowed the sixth and final run of the inning to cross home and end the game.

UT Tyler notched seven hits as an offense and drew six walks.

Bryant matched Tatum Goff's performance of 12 strikeouts in 2023 and Alaina Kissinger's 12 strikeouts of Howard Payne in 2014.

The Patriots will travel to Midwestern State this weekend for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday.
