UT Tyler went on the road last weekend to San Angelo, Texas to take on then #17 Angelo State. In that series, the Patriots offense came alive, scoring an average of 8.75 runs per game and hitting over .350 on their way to a 3-1 series win. That series win over the Rams on their home field is the first of its kind since 2022.

Following the huge weekend, the Patriots launched themselves back into national attention, as they slide back in the NCBWA Top 25 poll at #25. This is the first time the Patriots have been ranked since the NCBWA preseason poll in which they came in at #17.

Additionally, the Patriots soared up to #3 in the latest NCBWA South Central Region rankings, their highest since the preseason edition of the rankings.

PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS

- UT Tyler finished the 2023 season 39-19 overall and 34-14 in LSC play on the way to finishing 3rd in the LSC and making the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the Division II era.
- The Patriots defended Irwin Field in huge way last season, going 22-5 in games at home. Going back to their first season of Division II eligibility (2022), the Patriots are now 41-18 inside Irwin Field.
- Head Coach Brent Porche enters his eighth season with UT Tyler and holds a record of 224-106 with the Patriots. He holds a career record of 371-189 in his 11 total seasons.
- The Patriots will return several key contributors to the 2023 season, including All-Americans Garrett Arredondo and Dylan Blomquist, as well as All-Region nods Lane Hutchinson and Austin Ochoa. LSC Freshman of the Year Kaston Mason makes his return, as well as All-LSC nods Ethan Bedgood and Miles Clack.
- For the Patriots offense, they are led so far by Lane Hutchinson, who is hitting .397 with nine doubles and a home run while driving home 17 total runs and scoring 14. Right behind him is Ethan Bedgood, who has his average up to .393 with four doubles, two home runs, and 14 RBI on the year.
- The Patriots pitching staff continues to see Friday night starter Dylan Blomquist lead the way, as he sports a 3.44 ERA over 18.1 innings pitched. He has allowed just seven runs and has struck out 11.
- For the bullpen, Bryson Adair and Nick Niebur have been huge contributors. Adair has a save over seven innings pitched and is yet to allow a run while striking out nine. Niebur has a 3.86 ERA with three saves in 11.2 innings pitched. He has allowed five runs and struck out nine thus far.

DUSTDEVILS NOTES AND TRENDS

- Texas A&M International currently sits at 9-9 overall and 9-7 in LSC play. They are one of five teams tied for third place in the LSC and are coming off of a 3-1 series win against UT Permian Basin.
- The Dustdevils are led on offense by the pair of Abiam Medina and Ariben Gutierrez. Medina is hitting .419 on the year with 32 RBI and 10 extra base hits and a .566 on-base percentage. For Gutierrez, he is hitting .400 with 11 RBI and 20 runs scored and a .526 on-base percentage thus far.
- For the Dustdevils pitching staff, they are led by Isaac Ponce who is sporting a 2.05 ERA over 22 innings pitched. He has struck out 26 b atters and allowed just five earned runs while holding opposing hitters to just a .187 average.
- Leading the program is Phillip Middleton, who is in his fourth season of his career, all with the Dustdevils. He is 57-96 for his career.
- All time, the Patriots hold a 9-2 series lead over the Dustdevils and are winners of four of the last five. In Tyler, the Patriots are 3-1 against the Dustdevils.
