OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA – UT Tyler softball put together another big offensive day on their way to their 16
th straight win and a series sweep of Oklahoma Christian.
The Eagles held a 4-1 lead over the Patriots heading into the fourth inning, but a four run inning gave the Patriots a lead they would never relinquish.
Tara Stewart drilled a two RBI single to center field, and a throwing error from the Eagles second baseman brought home a run to tie the game. Just one batter later,
Nicole Price singled to left field herself to plate Stewart and put the Patriots out in front.
From there,
JT Smith scored in the fifth after a leadoff triple and a flyout from
Michelle Arias. In the sixth, the final six runs of the day crossed the plate to complete the run rule.
Sam Schott scored two with a double, and
Audrey Escamilla singled down the line to plate Schott. Stewart later in the inning had an RBI walk, and Price followed with an RBI hit by pitch before
Courtney Plocheck drove a single to left field for the final run.
Christin Haygood got the win in the circle after going three and two thirds innings while allowing no runs and just three hits. She added one walk but struck out three hitters. Only one runner reached third base under her watch, and she struck out two hitters in the final inning to cap off the run rule.
The Eagles struck first in the contest, scoring on an RBI double in the first inning to take the lead off of starter
Genesis Armendariz.
The Patriots answered in the third, as Price led off with a single and then stole second before coming around to score on a Plocheck single to right field to make it 1-1.
In the bottom half of the third, the Eagles put each of their first two hitters on base, before a single through the left side plated their second run of the contest. That single brought in Haygood for Armendariz, and the Eagles got a clutch two out single to make it 4-1.
From there it was all Patriots, as they scored 11 unanswered runs and held the Eagles completely scoreless to finish off the run rule win in the sixth inning.
Eight Patriots hitters recorded a hit on the day, and four Patriots recorded at least two hits.
Nicole Price led the way with a 3-for-3 effort that included two RBI and two runs scored.
Three other Patriots with Price also recorded at least two RBI, as Tara Steward led in that department with three after going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Next up for Patriots softball will be the final non-conference action of the year, as they place host to Oklahoma Baptist on March 20. That matchup will be a doubleheader, with game one scheduled for 3 p.m.
