WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS - #6 UT Tyler extended their win streak to 10 straight with 12-1 and 4-3 wins over Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon.
Four different Patriots notched multi-hit efforts in the game one victory that saw UT Tyler put runs across in all but one inning in the contest. UT Tyler needed just two hits in the game two win, utilizing three RBI from
Michelle Arias and four unanswered runs, to notch their third straight Lone Star Conference series sweep.
UT Tyler moves to 19-5 on the year and 11-4 in Lone Star Conference play with the wins.
Game One
UT Tyler drew 11 walks and had four contributors with multi-hit efforts in a 12-1 game one victory over Midwestern State.
The Patriots scored runs in their first four trips to the plate to run up a 7-1 lead following four innings of play. Sophomore
Cassidi Mullen went 3-for-3 and drove in a trio of runs to highlight a UT Tyler offense that notched 11 hits in the ball game.
Juniors
Sam Schott and
JT Smith both scored three runs and Smith joined
Courtney Plocheck,
Makayla Garcia and
Audrey Escamilla alongside Mullen with multiple hits.
Junior
Kaylee Davis stuckout five and scattered three hits in her 7.0 innings of complete game work in the circle for the Patriots. Davis moved to 6-0 on the year with the victory.
Escamilla and Smith put the first two runs on the board for UT Tyler in the top of the first with an RBI single and RBI groundout. The Patriots loaded the bases with one out in their next trip tp the plate in the second and added two more runs on the board with an RBI single from Garcia and a
Sam Schott hit by pitch to make it 4-0.
Davis worked through a perfect bottom half of the frame and then earned another run in support in the third with a two-out RBI single from Plocheck. Two doubles from the Mustangs in the bottom of the third plated their lone run of the day to make it 5-1.
UT Tyler loaded the bases once again in the fourth and added to the lead with an RBI single from Mullen and a sacrifice fly from
Madison Okano to make it 7-1. Davis retired nine batters in a row in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to quickly answer her lone conceded run of the afternoon.
Another Mullen single plated Smith in the top of the sixth before the Patriot offense closed out the ball game with a four spot in the top of the seventh to draw the 12-1 final. UT Tyler plated those four runs on three hits, two of which were singles from Escamilla and Smith, and drew four walks in the inning alone.
Escamilla went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI. Smith finished her outing 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and three runs scored.
Game Two
UT Tyler closed out their 10
th straight win with four unanswered runs to overcome an early deficit in a 4-3 win in game two.
Midwestern State struck for three runs in the bottom of the first, but a two-run triple from
Michelle Arias in the fourth and a costly error from the Mustangs in the sixth allowed UT Tyler to storm back for the victory. Graduate student
Genesis Armendariz earned the win after coming on in relief in the third and tossed 5.0 innings of shutout work from that point forward.
The Mustangs held their 3-0 advantage through three complete innings as the Patriot offense managed just a single hit up to that point. UT Tyler drew a pair of walks and then started their march back into the ball game with a two-out triple from Arias to left center that scored Escamilla and Schott.
Armendariz worked around a double by the Mustangs in the fifth to keep the 3-2 differential in place.
Midwestern State committed three errors in the top of the sixth, the latter of which proved the most costly as Arias put a ball in play to score the tying and then game-winning run. Armendariz worked around a leadoff walk in the sixth and then retired the side in order in the seventh to close out the win.
Escamilla and Arias notched the lone hits for the Patriots while Arias recorded all three RBI.
Armendariz struckout four and allowed just two hits in the circle to move to 7-3 on the year.
