SILVER CITY, N.M. - #6 UT Tyler scored in all five trips to the plate and run-ruled Western New Mexico by a 15-2 final in five innings to close out a series sweep.
Nicole Price and
Courtney Plocheck both had three hits to help lead UT Tyler to 15 hits in the ball game in what is now the 10
th win in a row for the Patriots. Freshman
Crimson Bryant collected the win to move to 8-2 on the year after going 4.1 innings in the circle with five strikeouts and two earned runs.
Plocheck drove in three runs on the afternoon on two of her three singles in the game, while Price scored three times and hit one of the four doubles for UT Tyler.
UT Tyler led 5-0 after two innings, scoring three runs in the top of the first and two runs in the top of the second. Western New Mexico put their only two runs of the day on the board in the bottom of the second with a pair of solo homers to make it 5-2.
The Patriot offense got right back in the saddle in the top of the third and extend the advantage back out to a comfortable margin with runs on an RBI double from
Makayla Garcia and an RBI single from
Michelle Arias.
Audrey Escamilla and
JT Smith made three singles to lead off the top of the fourth count with an RBI single and sac fly to make it 9-2 in favor of the Patriots. UT Tyler then saved their best inning for last, plating six runs on six hits in the top of the fifth.
Price got that rally started with a double up the middle that plated Garcia, and then scored on a two-RBI single through the right side from Plocheck. Escamilla, who provided a nice afternoon at the plate with a 2-for-3 day that featured two runs scored and two RBI, followed up the Plocheck single with an RBI double that made it 13-2.
Escamilla then scored on a passed ball for the 14
th run of the game and Smith came home for the 15
th run on a sac fly from
Cassidi Mullen.
Graduate student
Genesis Armendariz spelled Bryant in the circle in the ninth, retiring both of the batters she faced.
Eight different Patriots managed hits in the victory and eight different Patriots drove in an RBI.
UT Tyler moves to 37-7 on the year and 28-5 in Lone Star Conference play with the victory.
UT Tyler will stay on the road next weekend at Texas A&M International.
