LAWTON, OKLAHOMA – UT Tyler baseball kept their offense on a roll on Friday, scoring 14 runs on their way to a 14-4 win over Cameron as every starter posted at least one hit in the win.
The Patriots offense hasn't skipped a beat from the series win over Eastern New Mexico, now pushing their winning streak to five straight games after today's win.
The runs came early for the Patriots as they scored seven unanswered runs to start the game over the first four and a half innings. The first of those runs came in the first inning, as
Lane Hutchinson started the scoring with a sacrifice fly that scored
Nathan Carriere after he led off with a single and a steal before moving to third on an error.
The Patriots tacked on another pair of runs in the second, as
Kyle Atkinson launched a home run that plated
Kaston Mason. Two more runs came around in the third, as
Blake LaBuda picked up a two RBI single to make it 5-0.
In the fourth, Hutchinson posted his second sacrifice fly of the game, this time plating
Connor Clark, and in the fifth Atkinson plated LaBuda by way of a double to make it 7-0 before Cameron could plate their first run.
Rawley Hector got the ball to start for the Patriots on the mound, and he responded with a strong effort in the contest. His line went 6.1 innings while allowing four runs and posting eight strikeouts to back up the big day from the offense. He posted two strikeouts in both the first, second, and fourth innings in the effort.
After the Aggies plated their first two runs in the fifth via a two run home run, the Patriots tacked on two of their own as Hutchinson posted an RBI single and Mason later drew an RBI walk to take a 9-2 lead in the top of the sixth.
An RBI groundout from
Ethan Bedgood in the seventh would make it 10-2, but the Aggies added their final two runs of the ninth in the seventh with an RBI triple and an RBI single to make it 10-4.
In the eighth, the Patriots needed four runs to possibly force the run-rule, and
Kaston Mason started that trend with a one out solo home run to make it 11-4. Two batters later,
Drew Schmidt busted a two run home run to make it 13-4, and the final run came via Clark scoring on a wild pitch to set up the 14-4 run rule win.
Nash Villegas backed up Hector's big start, as he went 1.2 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out one.
The Patriots offense featured 20 hits on the day, with six players posting two or more hits and four posting three or more.
Blake LaBuda led the Patriots in the hits category, going 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Both Hutchinson and Atkinson led the Patriots in RBI, each posting three on the day while they also scored two each.
The Patriots will now get back to work tomorrow afternoon as they take on Cameron in a seven inning doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
