ODESSA, TEXAS – UT Tyler baseball saw their Lone Star Conference Tournament run come to a close on Sunday afternoon as UT Permian Basin outlasted the Patriots by a final score of 10-6.
The Falcons jumped out early, getting an early run off of an error in the first inning before two hit by pitches and a two RBI single gave them four more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
The Patriots bats struggled to find a rhythm in the early innings, but they finally found some momentum in the fifth.
Kaston Mason drew a walk and
Jordan Ardoin singled before both batters moved up on a wild pitch.
Drew Schmidt drove one home on a groundout, and
Nathan Carriere doubled off the wall to plate another and cut the lead to 5-2.
The Falcons battled back, scoring two more runs in the home half of the fifth to move their lead back to five, but the Patriots offense wasn't done yet. After a hit by pitch and two walks loaded the bases, Mason delivered a two RBI single and Ardoin drove another home with another single to make it 7-5 and the Patriots were right back in it.
A hit by pitch and a single led off the bottom of the sixth for the Falcons and a sacrifice bunt moved them over, but a three run blast that just cleared the right field wall plated all three and made it 10-5 in their favor.
Kyle Atkinson homered to lead off the eighth, but that would be the final run of the game for either side as the Patriots fell 10-6.
Nathan Carriere and
Jordan Ardoin each recorded a pair of hits in the contest, while
Kaston Mason recorded a team-high two RBI.
