Eight Patriots Earn All-LSC Honors, Hector Named Pitcher of the Year

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – UT Tyler baseball has earned eight All-Lone Star Conference awards, headlined by junior Rawley Hector earning Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Year honors as announced Wednesday night.

Hector, a right handed pitcher out of Van Alstyne, Texas, sported the best ERA amongst Lone Star Conference starters over the regular season at 2.94. Hector finished the season with a 2.95 mark over 73.1 innings pitched. He allowed just 24 earned runs on the year while striking out 56 batters and holding his opponents to a .241 batting average. In his 13 starts, he threw a pair of complete game shutouts in back to back outings, and threw at least six full innings in eight of those starts. In addition to being named Pitcher of the Year, Hector also earned All-LSC First Team honors.

Joining Hector on the first team is Lane Hutchinson and Nathan Carriere. Hutchinson, a junior out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, posted an average of .353 with 67 hits, 46 RBI, a .579 slugging percentage, and a .445 on-base percentage. This is his second straight All-LSC First Team nod, becoming the first Patriot to do so in the Division II era, and first overall since Blake Wilson was named All-ASC First Team in both 2018 and 2019.

Carriere, a senior from Maringouin, Louisiana, earned his first All-LSC honor after hitting a blistering .431 for the year with 23 extra base hits, 31 RBI, 43 runs scored, an on-base percentage of .524 and a slugging percentage of .708. Carriere ended the year with the second best batting average in the LSC, and set a new UT Tyler record with a 32 game hitting streak.

Ethan Bedgood is the Patriots representative on the All-LSC Second Team after another phenomenal year at first base. The senior from Sherman, Texas hit .383 with 80 hits, 55 RBI, a .404 on-base percentage, and a .550 slugging percentage. This season he attached his name to multiple UT Tyler career records including: games played, games started, hits, RBI, total bases, sacrifice flies, and doubles. This is his second consecutive All-LSC Second Team nod.

On the All-LSC Third Team is Kyle Atkinson, a junior outfielder from New Boston, Texas. Atkinson played all over the outfield for the Patriots on his way to a .336 batting average. He totaled 46 total hits, 15 going for extra bases. He drove in 26 runs, drew 19 walks, held an on-base percentage of .436, and slugged .562 on the year.

Blake LaBuda and Austin Ochoa are the UT Tyler representatives on the Lone Star Conference All-Defensive Team. The pair earn their first All-Defensive honors, joining Riley Lambert and Jordan Gochenour as the four Patriots to earn placement on the defensive team.

LaBuda, a catcher from Broomfield, Colorado, anchored down one of the toughest positions on the field for the Patriots all season long. He appeared in 48 total games, making 44 starts in the Patriots 52 game season. He posted a .990 fielding percentage for the year, committing just three errors and posting 26 total assists while throwing out 17 would-be base stealers.

Ochoa, a third baseman from Refugio, Texas, played the hot corner to the tune of a .944 fielding percentage on the year. He committed just eight errors on the year and totaled 95 assists while starting all 52 games in the Patriots season.

UT Tyler is represented on the LSC All-Academic Team by Garrett Arredondo. Arredondo, a junior from Sugar Land, Texas, posted a 3.06 ERA over 35.1 innings pitched. He went 2-1 on the year with a pair of saves while striking out 24 batters and allowing just 12 earned runs. This is his first All-Academic Team honor of his career and the seventh in program history.
