WHAT COACH MASHE IS SAYING
On last week's 3-0 weekend at the OBU Fall Tournament... "It was a great weekend for us. To go 3-0 I really felt like we needed to get that first win under our belt to just feel like 'we can win, we can do this'. The inconsistencies to start weren't great, but I did feel like each game this weekend, we got better. So that was a positive and it's what you want to see. You want to see growth and we had a great response from our team. We had a lot of players step up this weekend and so that was nice to see. I'm especially proud of the two five-set wins on Friday. It's not easy to win two five-set matches in a day, so for them to gut that out really showed the character that we want to see in our team and that's UT Tyler volleyball."
On some key players settling in and stepping up in last weekend's wins... "We worked all week just having conversations with different players to try and just instill confidence and the belief that we had in them. We have a lot of great players on this roster and they just have to go out and be who they truly are. I think
Kota Hartman did a great job of embracing just who she is for our team this weekend and I only see it getting better from here for her.
Autumn Perry did some great things this weekend, a player that we knew had that ability, she just needed to believe that she could go do that for us. And
Alyson Robbins finally got her start this weekend and did some great things as well as a freshman as well."
On playing a pair of quality Lone Star Conference opponents in non-conference competition this weekend... "Another road trip and we're going to have to be road warriors. We've talked about how important that mindset has to be at the beginning of our season. Both Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Kingsville are solid. They were both teams in the mix last year to make the regional for the NCAA tournament and we expect them to be those types of teams again this year. We're going to have to play consistently and do a great job of just scouting each of them to take away some of the things that help them be successful. Both important in-region games for us, so it is important to come out of there with some wins."
