KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Kingsville won a pair of extra-point first and fourth sets to claim a 3-1 (30-28, 25-19, 23-25, 29-27) win over UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon.
The loss pushes UT Tyler's overall record to 3-5 on the year heading into Lone Star Conference play which is set to begin next weekend. Junior
Kota Hartman led UT Tyler with 18 kills while
Saige Rivera reached double-double figures with 29 assists and 10 digs on the afternoon.
UT Tyler posted their second highest team hitting percentage in a match this season, putting down 55 kills on 144 swings, but couldn't find an answer to the opposing Javelina unit that hit .345 for the match. Texas A&M-Kingsville struck for 15 or more kills in all three sets, including 20-kill outputs in the first and fourth frames.
That high-powered offense proved key as the Javelinas won both of those frames in extra points by 30-28 and 29-27 margins. UT Tyler's lone set victory in the match came in 25-23 fashion in the third set.
Hartman hit .415 on the afternoon, totaling her 18 kills on just 41 swings while committing just a single attacking error. Sophomore
Autumn Perry joined Hartman in double-digit kill figures, putting down 10 on 26 swings.
Texas A&M-Kingsville finished the match with 73 kills, while UT Tyler managed 55.

UT Tyler will now look ahead to their first action inside the Herrington Patriot Center this fall with their Lone Star Conference openers on Friday and Saturday against Oklahoma Christian and Cameron.
