LAST TIME OUT
On Saturday afternoon, the Patriots began a three match homestand with a dominating 4-1 win over Harding. The Patriots scored all four goals within the first 26 minutes and then proceeded to keep the game under wraps over the remainder of the contest with staunch defense. Four different Patriots recorded a goal in the game, and four different Patriots recorded an assist to make it eight different players to pick up a point.
WHAT COACH JONES IS SAYING
On the big win over Harding: "I think that's what happens after a good full week of practice. I tell our guys you're either winning and learning or you're learning and I think our trip in Colorado really helped us."
On the matchup this week with St. Mary's: "I think that they're going to battle hard. They always battle hard. Everyone is still trying to figure out their way, same with us. I expect it to be a really close game and it's going to come down to who executes the best. It's going to be a good glimpse of what conference play is like."
TEAM EFFORT
With Saturday's scoring outburst, the Patriots are now up to seven goals on the season on 61 total shots. Five different Patriots have recorded a goal this season, with
Julian Smith and
Niko Vasileiou each recording two. Behind those goal scoring efforts is seven different players with one assist, and the only two goal scorers with an assist are Smith and
Omar Belahna.
As a team defensively, the Patriots have allowed seven goals thus far on 59 total shots while allowing 21 of those to go on net.
THE RATTLERS
St. Mary's thus far is 3-1-2 overall with wins over Our Lady of the Lake, Academy of Art, and Texas A&M International in non-LSC play. They will head into Wednesday's matchup as winners of their last two games.
Leading the charge for the Rattlers is Gael Gallegos, who has scored a team-high four goals on the season while tacking on an assist. Sofian Maghouz leads the team with three assists. In goal for St. Mary's has been Johnny Thurbin, who has allowed just four goals in six games while posting a save percentage of 77.8%.
Head coach Johnny Clifford is in the midst of his seventh season with the team and has compiled a record of 65-26-20.
All-time, the Patriots hold a 2-5-3 record against the Rattlers with a 2-1-2 record in LSC play. The two teams have tied in three of the last four matches.
