Patriots Suffer First Defeat of the Season on the Road at Midwestern State

Marin Love put UT Tyler ahead with a penalty kick goal seven minutes into the second half, but a pair of scores from Midwestern State from that point forward handed UT Tyler their first defeat of the 2024 season

WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – A meeting between two top Lone Star Conference foes ended Midwestern State's way with a 2-1 decision on Saturday morning in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The Patriots scored seven minutes into the second half on a penalty kick from Marin Love, but two goals from the Mustangs to close out the match resulted in UT Tyler's first defeat in 2024. UT Tyler moves to 5-1-1 on the year and 0-1-1 in Lone Star Conference play.

Both teams established a good pace to the match as they combined for 34 shot attempts, 19 of which came from the Patriots.

Senior Samaris Alvarado used that offensive pressure to set Love up with the penalty kick in the 52nd minute, drawing a foul after an extended run into the Midwestern State box. Love beat the out-stretched arms of the Midwestern State keeper to put UT Tyler ahead 1-0.

Love now has four goals on the year following UT Tyler's first penalty kick conversion of the season.

Midwestern State scored in the 68th and 83rd minutes following that goal from the Patriots to etch out the 2-1 victory.

Love and Natalie Jones led UT Tyler with four shot attempts. The Patriots managed to put just three of their attempts on goal as a unit.

UT Tyler will continue on with their Lone Star Conference schedule on Wednesday night at home against St. Mary's. Kick-off is set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
