TYLER, TYLER – UT Tyler answered a tightly-contested opening set loss with three convincing victories to win 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-13) over Cameron on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Dakota Rogers-Hurtado played a large part in the Patriot's improvement over the course of the match, finishing the afternoon with 19.0 points on 13 kills, six blocks and a service ace. The McKinney, Texas native was one of three Patriots alongside
Kota Hartman and
Jackie Velzis to finish with 13 kills, while
Autumn Perry had 12 to construct a balanced offensive effort for UT Tyler.
Cameron claimed the opening frame 25-23 and enjoyed the early stages of a second set that started out 7-7, but had no answer for an awakening Patriot offense that closed out the match with .429 hitting percentages in both of the dominant third and fourth set wins.
Libero
Addison Evans led UT Tyler with 24 digs and put across seven of the 15 service aces for the Patriots in the match to help match that offensive output on the defensive side of the net alongside Rogers-Hurtado.
UT Tyler seized control of the match coming out of that 7-7 mark in the second set, putting together a 6-1 run to jump out to a 15-9 advantage. Cameron didn't manage to narrow the deficit to any less than four from that point forward as UT Tyler evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 victory.
Another mid-set run in the third set the stage for UT Tyler to capitalize on an offense that truly got going in the third and fourth frames. UT Tyler scored six unanswered points to pad a 17-8 advantage and never looked back, closing out the 25-15 victory with back-to-back kills from Rogers-Hurtado and Hartman.
Rogers-Hurtado hit .667 in the match, totaling her 13 kills on just 18 swings, and remained active on at the net on the defensive side with her season-high six kills.
UT Tyler scored nine unanswered points as part of a 14-1 run that ran the score total to 15-5 in the early stages of the fourth set, eventually culminating in a no-doubt 25-13 set victory and match win for the Patriots.
UT Tyler out-scored Cameron 85-to-51 and out-killed the Aggies by a 61-to-40 margin. The Patriots hit .276 as a unit, putting down those 61 kills on 145 swings.

Saige Rivera totaled 31 assists and
Jenna White 16 assists to captain the Patriot offense. Defensive specialist
Saige Rivera added a quality afternoon to the defensive presence for UT Tyler, totaling 15 digs.
UT Tyler will stay at home for their next two matches in Wednesday night action against Texas Woman's and a Saturday afternoon meeting with DBU.
