Jones Strikes Twice as Patriots Extend Shutout Streak to Four

UT Tyler defense holds firm once again while senior captain becomes team leader in goals and points.

CANYON, TEXAS – The UT Tyler women's soccer team continued its dominant defensive form with a 2–0 road victory over West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon, marking the program's first-ever stretch of four consecutive shutouts against Lone Star Conference opponents. Senior captain Natalie Jones delivered both second-half goals, leading the Patriots to their eighth win of the season while becoming the team leader in both goals and total points.

After a scoreless opening half, the Patriots found their breakthrough in the 76th minute thanks to a composed finish from Jones. Marin Love threaded a perfectly timed pass through the middle of the field, sending Jones in alone on goal. The senior calmly slipped her shot past the charging keeper and into the back of the net to give UT Tyler a 1–0 lead. Jones doubled the advantage in the 88th minute after creating a chance entirely on her own. She intercepted a pass near midfield, raced toward goal, and once again found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper—this time firing a shot that ricocheted off the left post and in to seal the 2–0 victory.

Jones led all players with six total shots and four on goal, capping off a dominant attacking performance to push her season totals to a team-high in both goals and points. On the defensive end, Robbi Curry and Emily Clark continued to split time in net, combining for three saves in the clean-sheet effort. Curry tallied a pair of first-half stops, while Clark added one in the closing 45 minutes to secure UT Tyler's fourth consecutive shutout in conference play.

The back line of Samantha White, Gabrielle Wiebe, and Arianna Johnson once again anchored a composed and disciplined defensive performance, limiting the Lady Buffs to just nine total shots and three on target. Their consistent organization and communication have been pivotal in UT Tyler's recent defensive surge.

With the win, UT Tyler improved to 8-1-2 overall and 5-1-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The Patriots have now outscored their LSC opponents 5–0 during the four-match shutout streak and have earned points in each of their last five outings, continuing to solidify themselves as one of the most balanced and consistent teams in the league.

UT Tyler will look to carry its momentum into next week as the Patriots stay on the road to face Angelo State before returning home on Saturday to host Sul Ross State, aiming to extend their defensive streak and continue their climb up the Lone Star Conference standings.
