SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – UT Tyler volleyball moved to 9-7 overall and 5-1 in LSC play after a 3-0 defeat to (RV) Angelo State on Saturday on the road.
The Patriots would hit .167 on the day but stay within five points in all three sets as they played a gritty battle throughout the day.
An early 4-0 run from the Rambelles would get them a 6-2 lead in the first set, but the Patriots dug themselves back into the set behind a pair of errors and kills from both
Audrey Brandon and
Autumn Perry. A 4-1 run would open up a 16-10 lead from Angelo State that would eventually grow into 20-13, but the Patriots responded with their own 3-0 run behind a block from Brandon and
Alyson Robbins and a kill from
Faith Wilkins.
A 4-1 run from the Patriots just a few points later that saw
Bella Briceno record an ace and two kills from
Sydney Atkinson would cut the lead down to 22-20, but the Rambelles would just close out the set with a 25-22 advantage.
The second set would see a flip of the script early, with the Patriots opening up a 9-3 lead behind a 7-0 run that saw kills from
Kota Hartman and Brandon, along with a pair of blocks that included those two and
Saige Rivera. The Patriots continued to push forward with another 3-0 run spurred by Hartman and Atkinson with three kills, and the Patriots held a 13-7 lead.
A 10-2 run would flip the script back in the Rambelles favor and they would continue on to take an 18-16 lead. A kill from Hartman and two aces from Wilkins put the Patriots back in front at 19-18, but a 7-3 run from Angelo State would close out the set and give them a 2-0 lead.
Set three saw the Rambelles lead early with a 3-0 run, but the Patriots got kills from Hartman and Brandon to get things going. The two teams would trade points back and forth, but a 4-0 run from the Rambelles gave them a 10-5 lead. Just a few points later, the Patriots responded with their own 4-0 run as
Kailey Manes and
Kaitlyn Davis each collected kills and also combined with Rivera and Hartman to produce a pair of blocks.
The Rambelles would bounce back with their own 4-0 run and then stretched the lead out to 19-14. The Patriots clawed late with kills by Manes, Atkinson, and Hartman, but the Rambelles would ultimately hang on and deliver a 25-20 win to secure the sweep.
Both
Kota Hartman and
Sydney Atkinson would record 10 kills, while
Saige Rivera added 10 assists.
Bella Briceno and
Anna Arceneaux recorded 15 and 13 digs, while
Audrey Brandon lead with four block assists.
UT Tyler will now return to the HPC next weekend as they host Lubbock Christian on October 17
th at 6 p.m. for Pink Out night. They will close out the weekend with Midwestern State at 2 p.m. on October 18
th.
