Patriots Control Comets to Earn 4-0 LSC Start

The Patriots took down UT Dallas in three sets for a fifth straight win overall and fourth straight in LSC play.

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler volleyball moved to 8-6 on the season and 4-0 in LSC play after a 3-0 sweep of UT Dallas as part of Fall Fest on Saturday afternoon.

The Patriots tallied 46 kills as a team on a .178 hitting percentage but kept the Comets in check as they hit just .128 for the match. Kota Hartman and Autumn Perry hit double digit kills with 12 and 10, respectively.

Play began in set one with the Patriots jumping out to a 6-3 lead behind five kills from Kota Hartman as she got rolling early. The Comets responded with seven straight points as the Patriots sputtered on offense, but UT Tyler battled back with their own 6-1 run as Perry connected on two kills and Audrey Brandon added her own.

The two teams alternated points up to a 17-15 Patriots lead, but the Comets continued to battle with a 3-0 run to take the lead. With the momentum shifting, the Patriots buckled down and ripped off eight of the next nine points as Perry and Alyson Robbins each added kills while Robbins and Brandon chipped in on a block to lock down the set.

Set two saw another Patriots run to open it up, with Robbins and Hartman combining for three kills while Anna Arceneaux recorded an ace to make it 4-1. A 6-0 run from the Comets saw them take a lead, and they would hold onto it up until 9-8. From that point, the Patriots ripped off a 9-4 run that included four straight points as Brandon, Hartman, Robbins, and Faith Wilkins each recorded a kill in the stretch.

That run made it 18-13, and the Patriots would continue to hold the Comets at bay before capping off the set with a 4-0 run that saw Brandon and Robbins each record kills before Wilkins ended the set on a solo block.

The third set would see a different start, with the Comets leading 4-2. Two errors tied the set, and then two more errors combined with kills from Perry and Saige Rivera would make it 9-6 in favor of the Patriots.

The Comets would continue to battle back, taking eight of nine points on their way to a 15-12 lead. Kills from Wilkins, and Rivera along with a service error would tie the set yet again, but the Comets stayed stingy battling their way to a 21-18 lead and a 22-20 lead, but the Patriots had one final rally up their sleeve. Perry and Brandon would record three kills combined, and Brandon tallied a solo block to take the lead, and one final error from UT Dallas would see the set fall the Patriots way.

Alyson Robbins and Audrey Brandon would add nine and eight kills, and Saige Rivera added 39 assists. Emma Vazquez, Kaitlyn Davis, and Anna Arceneaux would each grab double digit digs on the night.

The Patriots now hit the road to take on UT Permian Basin and #22 Angelo State. Those matches will take place October 10th and 11th.
