LAST TIME OUT
Last week the Patriots started their Lone Star Conference season with matchups against DBU and West Texas A&M. Both teams would get the better of the Patriots, taking 2-1 victories as the Patriots fought close in each game.
Jason Verhoogen scored against DBU, marking his first goal of his career.
Henrique Caputo scored against the Buffs, his second of the season.
LONE STAR CONFERENCE UPDATE
Through the first two games of the slate, Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M lead the conference with four points on a 1-0-1 record. Six teams have at least three points after the first week. Sul Ross State and UT Dallas have each played just one game thus far.
THE #22 MUSTANGS
#22 Midwestern State is 5-2-3 overall and 1-1 in LSC play after taking down Texas A&M International on Saturday and falling to St. Edward's last Wednesday. As a team they are averaging two goals per game on 13.7 shots while holding their opponents to 1.20 goals per game on 11 shots.
Parker Plaxco is the unquestioned leader on offense and has seven goals in nine games played this season. He is also tied on the team for the lead in assists with two, joining four others with a pair. Goalkeeping has been nearly evenly split, with Jake Morris and Daniel Robles each posting five starts. Morris has a 1.17 goals against average and a save percentage of .667, and Robles has a goals against average of 1.23 and a save percentage of .739.
Midwestern State is 7-0 all time against UT Tyler in a series history that dates back to 2018. Last season saw a 2-1 victory for the Mustangs with an 88
th minute goal stealing away the win.
THE CHAPS
Lubbock Christian is 2-5-2 overall on the year but are 1-0-1 in LSC play to lead the conference standings. Last week they drew 0-0 with (RV) St. Mary's and followed that up with a 3-2 win over St. Edward's.
The Chaps have scored nine goals while allowing nine goals in their nine games. They are taking 14.2 shots per contest and allowing 12.1. Individually, six players have scored a goal, led by Pedro Lucas, who has three goals in six games. Connor Pettigrew has started all nine games in net and played every minute so far. He has made 29 saves and has a save percentage of .763.
Lubbock Christian leads the all-time series with UT Tyler at 5-0-2, but each of the last two matchups have ended in draws. Last season saw a 2-2 draw with goals from both
Luan Rangel and
Danny DeMarais.
PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
- UT Tyler went 4-6-7 in 2024 and 2-2-6 in LSC play on their way to their third berth in the LSC Tournament in program history.
- The only coach in program history, Kenny Jones, is in the midst of his 26th season as a head coach and 23rd season with the Patriots. He is 243-105-63 with UT Tyler and is 265-133-67 all-time.
- 2024 All-LSC Honorees Oscar Sosa, Danny DeMarais, and Diego Cruz lead 14 total returners back into the fray as they look to push the program to the next step.
- DeMarais led the team in goals in 2024 with five and in points with 12. Of the nine different goal scorers for the Patriots last season, four make their return, and those four accounted for 12 total goals.
- As a team, the Patriots scored 1.24 goals per game last year and recorded a .410 shots on goal percentage.
- Defensively, they held their opponents to 1.41 goals per game and a .386 shots on goal percentage.
- The Patriots have scored nine goals to start the season, an average of one per game. Henrique Caputo, Noe Coutiño, and Luan Rangel have each recorded a pair of goals. Danny DeMarais leads the way with two assists.
- Goalkeeper Niclas Becker has started all but two game thus far and has totaled 608:17 minutes. He has 19 saves to his record and a goals against average of 1.18.
