WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's soccer battled tough with #22 Midwestern State but suffered a 2-0 setback on Wednesday night on the road.
UT Tyler put up nine shots with two going on goal but were unable to find a goal on the night as the Mustangs scored in each half to hold on for the win.
The Mustangs would get off to a hot start, pushing the envelope on offense to the tune of four shots in the first 15 minutes with three going on net. Two of those would be saved by goalkeeper
Niclas Becker, but the third shot of that trio would ultimately find the netting on a corner kick that saw the ball batted around to three different players before finding the netting.
The Patriots got their first shot of the game in the 28
th minute, and that seemed to get the ball rolling as they rattled off three more over the next six minutes.
The Patriots continued their own offensive pressure to end the half, culminating in their best effort of the half in the 41
st minute. There, it was
Niko Vasileiou who dribbled a ball to his right foot and then ripped a shot that the Mustangs keeper just got a glove to and kept it out of the net.
That offensive pressure would continue into the second half, as the Patriots put up another pair of shots inside the first eight minutes. After that initial push however, the game would slow down for both teams until the 67
th minute.
In that minute a foul from the Patriots set up Midwestern State with a free kick, and they would capitalize with a header that just slipped inside the right post and made it 2-0.
Down the stretch the Patriots pressed onward but were unable to find the netting in the contest as they ultimately fell 2-0.
Niko Vasileiou was the lone Patriots player with more than one shot, recording two with one going on goal.
Carson Stiglets recorded the only other shot on net on the night.
The Patriots will now look ahead to Senior Day on Saturday afternoon as they host Lubbock Christian. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Citizens 1
st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex with senior festivities beginning approximately 20 minutes before the game.
