TYLER, TEXAS – The UT Tyler women's soccer team continued their strong run of form on Wednesday night, defeating Oklahoma Christian 1-0 at the Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. A first-half strike from senior forward Melissa Oliveira proved to be the difference, as the Patriots extended their points streak and posted their third consecutive Lone Star Conference shutout.
Oliveira gave UT Tyler the lead in the 14th minute, breaking through the Eagles' back line and slotting home her fourth goal of the season. The finish not only stood as the game-winner but also gave Oliveira the team lead in goals while tying her for the season points lead with eight. Her timely scoring has been a major boost to a Patriots attack that continues to generate consistent offensive pressure in conference play.
UT Tyler controlled the tempo from start to finish, outshooting Oklahoma Christian 14-5, including a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Patriots also earned four corner kicks while holding the Eagles without one, maintaining possession for much of the match and keeping the visitors pinned in their defensive half.
The Patriot defense once again proved its reliability, turning in another dominant performance. The back line of Gabrielle Wiebe, Samantha White, and company limited Oklahoma Christian's chances all night, while goalkeepers Robbi Curry and Emily Clark split time evenly to combine for the team's sixth shutout of the year. The result marks the third straight conference clean sheet for UT Tyler, as the Patriots continue to assert themselves as one of the Lone Star Conference's top defensive units.
With the win, UT Tyler improves to 7-1-2 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play. The defensive streak also carries special significance—it's the first time since 2019, the program's inaugural season in the Lone Star Conference, that the Patriots have held three straight league opponents scoreless.
The Patriots will return to action on Saturday in Canyon, Texas, aiming to extend their defensive streak and keep climbing the Lone Star Conference standings.
