Patriots Fall to Javelinas on the Road

The Javelinas held the upper hand in a slow offensive night for the Patriots on Friday night.

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – UT Tyler volleyball fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville 3-0 on Friday night on the road.

The Patriots hit just .104 as a team as the Javelinas hit .267 to hold the offensive advantage that ultimately paced them to the sweep.

UT Tyler came out strong behind early kills from Autumn Perry and Alyson Robbins to build a 10–8 edge midway through the opening frame. The Patriots capitalized on a 6–2 run with key blocks from Kailey Manes and Sydney Atkinson. However, Texas A&M–Kingsville found their rhythm late, tallying several kills to swing momentum back in their favor. Despite another late push from Robbins, who finished the set with three kills, UT Tyler couldn't close it out, falling 25–21.

The second set saw UT Tyler struggle to find consistency on the attack, hitting just .000 as errors mounted. The Patriots grabbed brief control at 8–6 after kills from Chelsea Caskey and Audrey Brandon, but Kingsville's steady serving and front-row defense turned the tide. They would ultimately close the set on an 11-5 run to go up 2-0.

UT Tyler responded with energy in the third, racing ahead 5–3 behind a service ace from Saige Rivera and a pair of points from Faith Wilkins. Robbins and Perry each delivered timely kills to keep the Patriots within striking distance. Kingsville, though, used a .536 hitting performance in the set to close strong with a 6–2 finishing run that sealed the 25–19 decision and the sweep.

Alyson Robbins led the Patriots with 11 kills on a .326 percentage. Perry would add seven more, while Saige Rivera totaled 18 assists to lead the team.

UT Tyler gets the chance to bounce back on Saturday as they will take on Texas A&M International in Laredo. That match will take place at 2 p.m.
