DALLAS, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's soccer will advance to the LSC Tournament Semifinals for the second time in program history after
Tony Ngombi connected on a goal with just under three minutes remaining to take down DBU, 1-0.
Tony Ngombi scored his second goal of the year and second in the last two games as it now becomes the biggest goal of the season for the Patriots.
The Patriots put the pressure on DBU early, recording two shots on goal over the first 24 minutes, one each from
Luan Rangel and Ngombi. In-between the two shots on net, the Patriots mustered three others as their offensive pressure and stout defense did the job early.
DBU would record just three shots in the first half, with none going on goal. Their first shot would not be recorded until the 29
th minute. The Patriots put up one more shot on goal to wrap up the half in the 37
th minute from
Carlos Galan, but the score remained 0-0 at the break.
Niko Vasileiou would take a crack on net to open up the second half but again the Patriots wouldn't find the net.
The big shift came in the 62
nd minute, as a DBU player would be sent off with a red card. That moment flipped things in UT Tyler's favor, as they recorded four shots and two shots on goal over the next 20 minutes.
In the 88
th minute, UT Tyler would finally break through. Noe Coutiño stole a pass right at midfield and pushed it forward to Rangel down the right side. Rangel would stumble just inside the box, but looked up to find a streaking Ngombi flying into the box and delivered the perfect pass. Ngombi would rip one right footed just inside the left post for the game winner.
With the big win, UT Tyler will now advance into the LSC Tournament semifinals, hosted by #1 seed Midwestern State. They will take on those Mustangs on Wednesday, November 12
th in Wichita Falls, Texas.
