LAREDO, TEXAS - UT Tyler secured a 10-3 victory over Texas A&M-International on Sunday at Jorge Haynes Field in Laredo, Texas.
The Patriots capped off a series sweep with another strong offensive effort on Sunday afternoon as they plated 10 runs on 11 hits.
In the second inning, the Dustdevils took an early lead as they scratched across a run with an RBI groundout.
The third inning saw the Patriots respond with a burst of offense.
Drew Schmidt scored the first run for the Patriots on a bunt single by
Tanner Hornback.
Kyle Atkinson's advancement to third on a wild pitch set up another scoring opportunity, which
Justin Williams capitalized on with an RBI groundout, bringing the score to 2-1 for the Patriots.
In the fifth inning, the Patriots extended their lead significantly and took control of the contest. After
Dylan Blomquist scored on a walk by Williams, a wild pitch allowed Atkinson to score. Hornback scored on a ground out by
Bo Willis, bringing the score to 5-2. The Patriots' effective base running and timely hits contributed to a productive inning.
The Patriots further increased their lead in the sixth inning, scoring four more runs.
Connor Clark scored on a hit by pitch, followed by
Mason Hammonds and Blomquist scoring on sacrifice flies by Atkinson and Hornback, respectively. Schmidt also crossed home plate on a single by Williams, widening the margin to 9-2.
In the ninth inning, the Patriots added an insurance run when
Bryce Jewell scored on a sacrifice fly by Clark, making it 10-2. The Dustdevils managed to score one more run in their half of the ninth, but the Patriots secured the victory with a final score of 10-3.
Tanner Hornback delivered a strong performance, leading the team with three hits and two RBIs.
Justin Williams added three RBIs and a stolen base, and
Kyle Atkinson recorded two runs, one hit, and one RBI.
Wyatt Wick pitched four innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, and striking out four batters while issuing two walks.
Miles Clack contributed three innings of relief, giving up one hit and one run and added one strikeout and one walk.
Nick Niebur pitched one inning, surrendering one hit and striking out one. N. Villegas closed out the with 2/3 innings, inducing a double play to ice the game.
The Patriots now return home to Irwin Field as they get set to host Texas A&M-Kingsville in a four game series beginning on Friday night.
