NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – CANYON, TEXAS – UT Tyler track and field put together a big weekend at both the Carl Kight Invitational and the Jo Meaker Classic on both sides of the Lone Star State.
At the Carl Kight Invitational, the Patriots would break a pair of school records in the distance category. That effort began in the 1,500 meters, as
Kailynn Denney set a new high water mark in the discipline. She ran a time of 4:36.84, placing herself third overall in the event.
She was followed by teammate
Macy Cogburn, who ran a time of 4:38.25 to place herself sixth overall and make it two top 10 finishes.
In the women's 5,000 meters, the Patriots would break their second school record of the day as
Gracie Ladner put up a big effort. She ran a time of 17:51.79, placing herself ninth in the event and fourth overall amongst Division II competitors.
In the women's edition of the 800 meters, Cogburn and
Calista Segura would each top 10 runs as they finished third and fourth, respectively. Cogburn ran a time of 2:14.38, and Segura would finish in 2:15.46.
In the men's version of the same event,
Chris Kopecky added another top 10 to the total as he ran a time of 1:53.95 to place himself seventh.
Over at the Jo Meaker Classic, the Patriots put together six more school record efforts as they continued their big weekend.
The first of those efforts came in the men's 400 meters, where
William Davis set a new mark in the 400 meters. Davis ran a time of 47.23 in the event, placing himself fourth overall with the new program record. He would be joined in the top 10 by
Caleb Williams, who finished in a time of 48.23.
The second record breaking effort came in the women's 800 meters, where
Kamaria Carr ran a new school record time of 2:13.22 to place second in the event and top amongst Division II competitors. She would be joined in the top three by
Kymia Woodard, who ran a time of 2:16.81 to place third.
Carr and Woodard would each continue their efforts in the 400 meters, putting together two more top 10 efforts. Woodard placed seventh overall in a time of 56.21, but Carr would steal the show in the event. She ran a time of 54.83 in the event to place fifth, and that time would double as the 14
th fastest time in Division II this season.
The Patriots added another top 10 finish in the 100 meter hurdles, as
Isabel Jakobsen took her turn on the track. She ran a time of 14.96, placing herself ninth.
Over on the men's side,
Andy Tunstall added to the big weekend as he placed himself seventh overall in the men's hammer throw. He hit a mark of 49.14 meters, finishing fifth amongst Division II competitors in the event. In his second event of the day, Tunstall would place sixth, this time in the discus throw. He would throw 46.37 meters, finishing third amongst Division II competitors in the event.
In the 400 meter hurdles,
Ashton Turner put together a strong effort as he picked up a podium finish. He placed third overall, running a time of 53.31 as he finished second amongst Division II competition.
Turner's day would not be done, as he added another strong time in the 110 meter hurdles. He would place second in the event, running a school record time of 13.73. That time doubles as the fourth fastest time in Division II this season. He was joined in the race by teammate
Brandon Arenas, who placed sixth overall in a time of 14.11.
Dylan Bennett would claim a pair of school records on Saturday, as he took down both the 100 and 200 meter times. In the 100 meters, Bennett ran a time of 10.32 seconds, placing himself sixth overall. In the 200 meters, Bennett ran a time of 20.87 seconds, placing himself seventh overall.
The Patriots would get strong finishes out of both of their men's relays, starting with the 4x100. Ashton Bates,
Landon Smith,
Evan Carter, and Bennett would combine for a time of 40.35 seconds, earning a fourth place finish.
In the men's 4x400,
Jackson Crysup, Williams, Turner, and Davis combined for a time of 3:09.23, setting a new school record in the process and placing second overall in the event.
UT Tyler now gets a week off from action before heading out to the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas on April 25.
