TYLER, TEXAS – #8 UT Tyler men's tennis took a 4-3 win over #5 Lubbock Christian on Sunday afternoon, securing their third LSC Regular Season Championship in program history and first since 2023.
Play began in doubles, where the Patriots looked in top form as they swept the three matches.
Artiom Dorofeev and
Malo Poulesquen combined for a 6-1 win, while the pairs of
Carel Wessel and
Daniil Felker and
Job Japelj and
Trevor Short each earned 6-2 wins.
In singles, the Patriots poured it on, as Felker and Poulesquen picked up two clutch points in the #4 and #5 lines. Poulesquen finished first with a 6-1, 6-2 win, and Felker added a 6-2, 6-4 win to put the Patriots on match point.
The Chaps battled back to take the #3 line, but the Patriots shut the door with a win in the #6 line as
Jordi Garcia Portell earned the clutch win and match point. Garcia Portell won his first set 6-1, and then won his second 7-6 (9-7) to put the fourth Patriots point on the board and win the match.
The Chaps would add final wins in the #1 and #2 lines, eventually leading to a final score of 4-3.
UT Tyler men's tennis now will embark on the LSC Tournament at the Arlington Tennis Center to be played May 1-3. There, the Patriots will have the #1 seed.
