CANYON, TEXAS – #2 seed UT Tyler softball cruised to a dominant win over #7 seed Cameron as they pulled off an 8-0 run rule win in just 4 ½ innings of work.
Kaylee Davis got the ball for the Patriots and never gave the Aggies a chance as she allowed just one hit and a hit by pitch on the day as no runner reached second base under her watch. She worked 1-2-3 innings in each of the first two frames before hitting the first batter of the third inning. However, she sat the next three hitters down in order to end the frame as she posted three strikeouts through the first three innings.
The first batter of the fourth would single to shortstop to finally break up the no hitter, but Davis again was lights out as she ended the inning with a fielder's choice, lineout, and a groundout. In the fifth, she would close out the game with a pair of groundouts and a strikeout.
While Davis was lights out, the Patriots offense put the pressure on early on their way to the run rule win. In the fist inning, the Patriots loaded the bases on a double and two singles before getting their first run on an RBI hit by pitch from
Sam Schott. A fielder's choice RBI from
Megan Geyer put a second run on the board, and
Miia Campos cleared the bases with a two RBI double off the left field wall to make it 4-0 after one.
The Patriots added two more runs in the second as
JT Smith tripled,
Ka'Lyn Watson walked, and they both would score on a
Taryn Barney double to right center to make it 6-0. The Patriots would go scoreless in the third, but scored two big runs in the fourth to get into run-rule territory. Smith would come all the way around to score on a single and an error in left field, and Geyer drove home the final run via a sacrifice fly to center field.
Smith, Watson, and Barney each recorded two hits on the day and combined for six of the eight runs scored. Barney, Geyer, and Campos each drove home two runs for the Patriots.
Davis threw five innings while striking out four, allowing one hit, and hitting one batter as she faced just two batters over the minimum on the day.
#2 seed UT Tyler will now face off with #3 seed Angelo State on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Canyon, Texas in the LSC Semfinals.
