TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler Baseball alumni Grant Garza will continue his playing career at the professional level, signing with the Garden City Wind of the Pecos League.
Based in Garden City, Kansas, the Wind compete in the Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs—an independent league operating throughout the desert mountain regions, including California, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas. The league, headquartered in Houston, is not affiliated with Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball and features a condensed three-month season with 54 games evenly split between home and road contests.
Garza, a Sugar Land, Texas native and transfer from Tarleton State, made a strong impact out of the bullpen for UT Tyler this season. He helped the Patriots set a new single-season wins record and earn their first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II World Series. In 11 appearances, Garza posted a 3.98 ERA over 20.1 innings, striking out 19 batters.
Now with Garden City, Garza is off to a stellar start. In his first six appearances, he's thrown 6.2 innings, allowing just three hits and no earned runs while racking up 10 strikeouts.
