LAST TIME OUT
 
Last week the Patriots traveled to Denton, Texas to battle it out in the TWU Volleyfest. There, the Patriots earned a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Southern New Hampshire and Arkansas Monticello, but also dropped two matches by sweep to Texas Woman's and Arkansas Tech. Autumn Perry was named to the All-Tournament team after picking up 38 kills, 10 digs, and six total blocks.
 
THE LSC PRESEASON POLL
 

In the LSC Preseason Poll, the Patriots were selected third, only behind Angelo State and West Texas A&M in the rankings. Additionally, the Patriots picked up three first place votes in the poll.
 
Senior setter Saige Rivera was selected as the LSC Preseason Setter of the Year, marking the first time in program history that they earned a preseason LSC Player of the Year honor.
 
THE LSC CHALLENGE
 
This week the Patriots take on the LSC Challenge that features each team in the LSC split into groups of three based on last season's LSC standings. The 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, and 16 teams from last year's standings will each host their "pod" from Thursday-Saturday.
 
#10 WEST TEXAS A&M
 
The Lady Buffs are 6-3 on the season and have dropped three straight matches after starting the season 6-0. They are hitting .245 as a team this season while averaging 11.5 assists per set and 15.1 digs per set. They are holding opponents to a .167 hitting percentage so far.
 
West Texas A&M is led in the early part of the season by the duo of Currie Marusak and Emma Becker. Marusak is leading the team with 116 kills on a .266 percentage thus far, while Becker has 105 kills on a .195 percentage. Defensively, Kaycee Cavanaugh leads the team with 105 digs while Taytum Stow has 55 blocks to her name.
 
#13 ANGELO STATE
 
The Rambelles are also 6-3 on the year and are coming off of wins over Regis and #21 Bentley in their two most recent matches. They are hitting .246 as a team while holding opponents to a .170 percentage. They are also posting 12.5 assists per set and 15.3 digs per set while totaling 52 total blocks.
 
Angelo State is led by Madi Parrish with 117 kills on a .268 hitting percentage and setter Madison Scrivner has totaled 198 assists to lead the program. Defensively, Ireland Ferguson has recorded 136 digs for an average of 4.39 per set. Sydney Thornton and Cate Boldrick have 23 and 20 blocks to lead the program.
 
PATRIOTS NEWS AND NOTES
 
  • UT Tyler went 18-9 overall in 2024 with a 14-2 record in the LSC. They qualified for their 4th straight NCAA South Central Regional Tournament and finished 3rd in the LSC Standings.
  • The Patriots are led by head coach Lyndsay Mashe who is in her 10th season with the program and 20th year as a head coach. She is 162-76 (.686) with the Patriots and 360-198 (.645) overall.
  • Coach Mashe is joined by her husband and Associate Head Coach Kris Mashe, who has been at her side throughout all 20 years of her tenure.
  • UT Tyler will return their three highest offensive players in terms of kills from 2024 as Kota Hartman, Autumn Perry, and Jackie Velzis come back. Hartman, the reigning LSC Newcomer of the Year, had 399 kills and hit .216 to average 3.87 kills per set.
  • Saige Rivera, the Preseason LSC Setter of the Year, will look to build on a season that saw her total 995 assists for an average of 9.85 per set. She also had a strong year at the service line, picking up 24 aces to post the third most on the team.
  • Of the 10 players that played at least 70 sets last season, seven will make their return in one of the strongest returning classes in recent seasons.
  • Through the opening weekends of the season, Autumn Perry leads the Patriots with 89 kills and Maya Jones has a .286 attack percentage to lead the team with those over 20 kills. Saige Rivera has 151 assists thus far, and Anna Arceneaux has 93 total digs.
