SEARCY, ARKANSAS – UT Tyler men's soccer fell to Harding 3-1 on Saturday afternoon as they moved to 2-2-1 on the season with two non-conference matchups remaining.
The first half of the contest saw Harding with the early pressure, scoring the opening goal in the ninth minute of play. They would add another just under 13 minutes later, making their lead 2-0 in 22 minutes of action.
UT Tyler would battle through those opening goals on offense as
Oscar Sosa and Noe Coutiño each recorded shots on goal but the Harding keeper kept his line. The Patriots would record five shots in the first half, with those two being the only ones on goal.
Despite the Patriots storm after the early goals, Harding would find their way to one more key goal in the closing minute of the first half, taking a 3-0 advantage into the second 45.
That first half pressure from the Patriots offense carried over into the second, and just under 10 minutes after the whistle the Patriots recorded a goal from the foot of Coutiño. He was assisted by
Danny DeMarais and Sosa on the effort and the Patriots would be within two.
Diego Cruz,
Javi Gonzalez, and
Anthony Licea each took shots in the second half following the goal, but the Patriots couldn't break the barrier and keep digging into the lead. In the 79
th minute,
Sid Cleofe took a shot that was blocked and earned a corner.
Landon Neely and Sosa would each follow with their own shots as the Patriots continued the late pressure, but the Patriots couldn't find the netting.
One last gasp saw
Luan Rangel take a shot on net that was saved, and DeMarais took a shot from the rebound, but it was blocked and the final score would sit at 3-1.
Coutiño provided the lone Patriots goal, his second of the season. He alongside
Luan Rangel and
Oscar Sosa recorded three shots as the Patriots totaled 18 for the match.
UT Tyler will be back in action next week as they take on Saint Martin's and Simon Fraser in a pair of neutral site battles in Frisco, Texas. The matchup with Saint Martin's will lead off those games on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
