The UT Tyler women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Wednesday night, falling 2-0 to nationally ranked No. 4 Dallas Baptist at Citizens First Bank–Perkins Soccer Complex. The matchup brought together two unbeaten teams in Lone Star Conference play, and the Patriots battled hard throughout the contest but ultimately came up short against one of the top programs in the country. With the result, UT Tyler moves to 5-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference action.
The first half was tightly contested, with both sides settling into the game through organized defending and limited scoring opportunities. UT Tyler held its ground and kept the match level going into halftime despite being pressured at times by the DBU attack. Goalkeeper Robbi Curry came up with an important save in the opening frame, and the Patriots' back line stood tall to hold one of the nation's highest-ranked offenses in check through the first 45 minutes.
Momentum shifted in the second half as DBU capitalized on a pair of opportunities to break the scoreless tie. The first goal came just past the hour mark, and another was added less than ten minutes later to establish a two-goal cushion. Those strikes proved to be the difference as UT Tyler worked to find a way back into the match but was limited to six total shots and just one on goal.
DBU held a 12-6 advantage in total shots and a 5-1 edge in shots on target. The Patriots did not earn a corner kick in the match, while DBU finished with four. Curry recorded three saves in goal, and UT Tyler was whistled for three fouls and two yellow cards compared to ten fouls committed by DBU.
The Patriots will aim to bounce back quickly as Lone Star Conference play continues, turning their focus to Lubbock Christian on Saturday in hopes to get back in the win column.
