Patriots Smash Their Way to 2-0 LSC Start

The Patriots put together a second straight offensive showcase to book a 3-0 win over Oklahoma Christian.

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler volleyball is now 2-0 in LSC play after a second straight 3-0 sweep, this time over Oklahoma Christian.

The Patriots hit a blistering .364 over the match, including .400 in the first set and .462 in the third set. On defense, they held the Eagles to just .060 for the match, including -0.057 in the second set.

Seven different players recorded a kill, and four different players recorded five as Autumn Perry led the team with 11. The offense also totaled nine aces, including a team-high four from Kaitlyn Davis.

In the opening points of the first set, the Eagles would stay steady with the Patriots, up until an 8-7 advantage from UT Tyler, but a 7-0 run would see the Patriots take control. Two aces from Anna Arceneaux along with a block and a kill from Kota Hartman bookmarked the run.

The teams would trade points up to the 17-10 mark, but a 4-0 run that grew into a 8-2 run would close out the set. Autumn Perry picked up four kills in that run alone, including a run of three straight while also adding a block.

In set number two, the Patriots kept that offensive flow to the tune of a 6-0 run as Emma Vazquez added a pair of aces and Hartman and Audrey Brandon combined for three kills. Alyson Robbins added on a block and two kills of her own right after the run, extending the lead out to 9-2.

Just two points later, a Hartman kill started what turned into an 8-0 run for UT Tyler as Davis served up three consecutive aces while Faith Wilkins added a pair of kills while combining with Perry for a block.

Another 5-0 run later on in the set would see the Patriots capitalize on four straight errors from the Eagles while Robbins added another kill to her tally. Perry and Saige Rivera would add in the final two points in the set from kills and the Patriots took a 25-10 win and a 2-0 lead.

The offensive showcase continued yet again into the third set, as the Patriots started on a 4-0 run that grew into an 8-3 stretch to open it up. Four different Patriots had a kill in the stretch, while Davis and Arceneaux each added aces.

A 5-0 run later in the set saw Perry, Robbins, and Brandon combine for four kills, and a few points later a 3-0 run with Perry and Hartman adding kills and Vazquez adding an ace all but put the set out of reach. The final points came from Brandon, who closed the set with two kills.

Hartman was second on the team with eight kills, and Alyson Robbins added seven of her own. Brandon would have six kills on a .667 percentage. Rivera would lead the team with 31 assists and also posted 12 digs to lead the team.

UT Tyler continues their LSC schedule next week as they take on St. Edward's on the road in Austin, Texas on September 30th at 6 p.m.
