TYLER, Texas — The UT Tyler Women's Soccer Program took down Angelo State 3-0 Wednesday night at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex, improving to 6-4-2 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play. The Patriots got back to their offensive dominance out shooting the Rambelles, 29-4, putting 13 shots on goal while holding ASU without a shot on goal.
The Patriots pushed forward early, collecting eight shots in the opening minutes of the first half, including four that needed saves. UT Tyler earned their best scoring chance in the 25th minute after a Rambelles handball in the box gave the Patriots a penalty kick. However,
Marin Love's shot was turned away on a diving save from the Angelo State keeper.
It would be the Patriots depth that would make the difference again, because just 4 minutes after subbing into the game
Sarah Hayes sent a rocket to the top left corner of the net near the end line for her first goal this season this season to give UT Tyler a 1-0 lead.
It wouldn't take the Patriots very long to double their lead. In the 34th minute
Katie Wong would find
Mayla Dawkins right in front of the net as the freshman would spin and fire it past the Rambelles goalkeeper, making it a 2-0 score. It is Dawkins's first goal of the year and Wong's first assist, as well.
Halli Keese made it 3-0 in the 51st minute after some fancy footwork would create some space as she sent a shot to the bottom right of the net from outside of the box. It would be her first goal of the season and one of two shots she had in the match.
Robby Curry collected her sixth win of the year along with her sixth shutout. On the offensive side, Love led the Patriots with six shots her most in a game all year. 15 Patriots were able to get a shot off in the game, showing the depth that head coach
Stefani Webb has mentioned all year.
The Patriots will look to keep up their momentum, with just four matches left in the regular season, as they travel to Alpine, Texas, to take on Sul Ross State on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m.
