The Patriots dropped their third straight match with a 1-0 setback at St. Mary’s on Wednesday.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – UT Tyler men's soccer battled St. Mary's for 89 minutes Wednesday night before a late goal lifted the Rattlers to a 1-0 Lone Star Conference victory over the Patriots at Sigma Beta Chi Field.

The Patriots moved to 2-5-4 overall and 0-4-1 in Lone Star Conference play following the setback. UT Tyler held St. Mary's scoreless through the majority of the match, with the Patriots' defense and goalkeeper Niclas Becker keeping the contest level deep into the second half.

UT Tyler created several opportunities throughout the opening half. Jamie Joyce recorded the Patriots' first shot of the night just over four minutes into the match, while Noe Coutino put a pair of shots toward the St. Mary's goal in the first half. Coutino's 15:42 attempt was saved by the Rattlers' goalkeeper, while his second attempt in the 27th minute went wide.

Becker helped keep the Patriots within striking distance, recording two saves in the opening half. UT Tyler entered halftime tied 0-0 after limiting St. Mary's to its own collection of chances without allowing a goal. Becker finished the match with three saves.

The Patriots continued to generate chances after the break. Yanis Lasri registered an early second-half shot, while UT Tyler earned a corner kick in the 60th minute. The Patriots continued to rotate players throughout the second half in an effort to find the breakthrough.

UT Tyler pushed forward in the final minutes. Coutino forced another save in the 86th minute before Lasri sent a shot wide less than two minutes later. Luis Martinez then put another shot on frame in the 89th minute, but St. Mary's goalkeeper made the save.

The Rattlers broke through moments later at the 89:02 mark, leaving the Patriots with little time to respond.
