CLINTON, MISSISSIPPI – UT Tyler tennis will look to reset next week after falling in both of their matches against a solid Mississippi College team on Friday.
WOMEN'S MATCH: #13 UT Tyler 2 | #9 Mississippi College 5
The Patriots battled back in singles, but ultimately the Choctaws would hold the upper hand on Friday.
In doubles, the Choctaws caught fire, winning all three matches in scores of 6-1, 6-1, and 6-2 as they took a 1-0 lead into singles.
There, they kept up the strong play, taking a win in the #1 line before staving off tough efforts from #5 line
Paula Castellanos and #6 line
Claudia Di Leonardo to take the three singles matches they needed to secure the win.
The Patriots got their first win of the day in the #2 line, as
Natalia Gorzny took a 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 win as she battled back from a 2-4 deficit in the first set.
The Choctaws got another win in the #4 line, pulling off a comeback win in scores of 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 as
Carla Rodier took the first set of the match.
UT Tyler's final point of the match came from
Maria Antonio Ortega, who took a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 win in the #3 line.

The Patriots took the lead early, but the Choctaws found their rhythm in singles play on their way to the upset win.
In those doubles matches,
Daniil Felker and
Carel Wessel got things rolling with a 6-4 win in the #1 line, they were followed by
Artiom Dorofeev and
Malo Poulesquen, who took a 7-5 win in line #2 to give UT Tyler a 1-0 lead into singles.
In singles, the Choctaws got on a roll, ultimately clinching the match with four straight wins as they took the #1, #2, #5, and #6 lines. The Patriots put up strong efforts in all four of those matches but came up just short.
Carel Wessel's match went unfinished as he split his first two sets. He dropped the first at 4-6, but responded with a 6-2 set win before the match was finished.
Samuel Antwi took a dramatic first set at 7-6 (7-3), and then led 4-1 in his second set before the Choctaws reached four points.
UT Tyler gets the chance to bounce back next week as they prepare for a pair of neutral site matchups in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They will face off with Catawba on Wednesday, March 11
th and then North Georgia on Thursday, March 12
th to cap off their two matches on spring break week.
