ROCKWALL, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's golf freshman
Blake Harwell has been named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year and LSC Honorable Mention at the year-end awards banquet on Sunday evening.
Harwell, hailing from League City, Texas, has been the program's top player throughout the spring. He has five top 20 finishes, all in the five events played this spring.
His top finish of the year came at the Oak Tree Invitational on March 16-17, where he placed fifth overall at five over par.
His strong showing throughout the spring has pushed him to a national ranking of #112 and a regional ranking of #18, both high marks amongst the Patriots. He has an adjusted scoring average of 72.3, and has an overall record of 480-111-22.
With his Freshman of the Year award, he becomes the first player in program history to win a Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, or Newcomer of the Year honor.
His honorable mention team honor is the second in program history and marks the third straight season the Patriots have had an All-LSC honoree.
Harwell and the Patriots will take on the first two rounds of the LSC Championship on Monday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
