Men’s Tennis Dominant, Advances to NCAA Round of 16

UT Tyler delivered another standout performance on Monday morning to advance to the NCAA final site for a fifth straight year.

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's tennis will head to the NCAA Round of 16 for the fifth straight season after a 4-0 win over No. 3 seed Cameron in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament on Monday.

The Patriots will head to Surprise, Arizona for the NCAA Championships, marking their fifth straight appearance at the final site.

UT Tyler was near perfect on the day, racing out to a quick 1-0 lead thanks to strong doubles play. Samuel Antwi and Trevor Short delivered the first blow with a 6-0 win in line #3. Carel Wessel and Daniil Felker followed just minutes later, taking a 6-3 win to put the Patriots up 1-0.

Antwi would stay hot down in line #4, racing out to a 6-0 first set. He followed with another brilliant 6-2 win, doubling the Patriots lead after just one match in singles.

Artiom Dorofeev in line #1 provided huge fireworks in a 6-2 first set win. He staggered out of the gate in set two to fall behind 2-5, but came roaring back to square the set at 5-5. He capped it off with two more wins, ultimately winning five straight to seal the comeback win and a 3-0 lead.

The Aggies took the first set in three other matches, but in the lone match they didn't, Felker would put the wraps on the day. He started his effort with a 6-3 win in his first set, but fell behind 0-3 in set two. Just like Dorofeev though, he too came roaring back, winning six straight games and earning the fourth and final point for the sweep.

UT Tyler now looks ahead to the NCAA Round of 16 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona. Match times and seedings will be announced at a later date.
