CANYON, TEXAS – UT Tyler softball fell by a final score of 3-1 to Angelo State on Friday afternoon, ending their LSC Tournament run in the semifinal round.
The Patriots got the early run, but the Rambelles answered with two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth to give themselves the narrow 3-1 win.
The first run of the contest came in the bottom of the first, as
Layne Reh got all of the ninth pitch of the at-bat and homered well over the left field wall to make it 1-0.
UT Tyler starter
Alli Kimball was flawless early, working a 1-2-3 first inning with a strikeout. In the second, she allowed a double but then got a huge lineout double play to third base to stay unblemished. She was again on top of things in the third, striking out another batter and getting a groundout and flyout around a single to end the inning.
The Rambelles finally struck in the fourth, getting a leadoff homer to tie the game. A walk would follow, and three batters later they would add an RBI triple to break the tie and make it 2-1.
The Patriots would bring in
Kearston Gooch to finish the inning, and she worked a 1-2-3 fifth to keep the Patriots within range.
In the home half, the Patriots got a two out walk and then a single with an error to put two in scoring position, but could not cash in and went down on a lineout to end the threat.
The Rambelles would add another run via a sacrifice fly in the sixth, giving them one more insurance run and a 3-1 lead. The Patriots went down in order in the sixth and got a two out walk in the seventh, but were unable to get the bats churning to end the game.
Alli Kimball picked up just her second loss of the season and is now 10-2. She went 3.2 innings with four hits, two runs, one walk, and two strikeouts.
Megan Lau went 2-for-3 to be the only player with two hits on the day. Three other Patriots added a hit, and Reh drove home the only run with her solo homer.
UT Tyler will now look ahead to the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 9 a.m. on NCAA.com. There they will learn their postseason fate in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.
