DALLAS, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's soccer opened the 2026 season in winning fashion Thursday night, earning a 1-0 victory in its season opener behind a late goal from senior forward Dennis Nyame.
The Patriots and DBU battled through a scoreless opening 45 minutes, with UT Tyler creating opportunities while its defensive unit kept the match level heading into halftime. Niclas Becker started in goal for the Patriots and provided a strong presence between the posts throughout the contest.
UT Tyler continued to apply pressure in the second half as the Patriots searched for the game's opening goal. Becker came up with several key saves to keep the match scoreless, ultimately finishing the night with four saves across 90 minutes.
The Patriots finally broke through in the 84th minute when Yanis Lasri played a ball to Nyame, who found the back of the net to give UT Tyler a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Nyame's first of the season and provided the Patriots with the only offense they would need to secure the victory.
Nyame led the Patriots with three shots on the night, including one shot on goal. Landon Neely and Azael Ochoa also recorded shots for UT Tyler, while Lasri finished the night with the game-winning assist.
The Patriot defense remained composed over the final minutes, protecting the one-goal advantage and securing the shutout. Hugo Dunger, Yusef Abdelrahman, Samuel Carrias, Landon Neely and the rest of the UT Tyler defensive unit helped limit opportunities while Becker handled everything that came his way.
UT Tyler finished the match with five total shots and one corner kick. The Patriots' defensive effort proved to be the difference, as Becker and the back line preserved the 1-0 lead through the final whistle.
With the victory, UT Tyler opens the season 1-0-0 and will now prepare for its home opener. The Patriots return to action Saturday, Sept. 5, hosting Rogers State at 7 p.m.
