Patriots Fall 2-1 to Rogers State in Season Opener

TYLER, TEXAS — UT Tyler opened the 2026 season Thursday night at Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex, falling 2-1 to Rogers State in the season opener.

The Patriots (0-1-0) came out attacking early, recording eight shots and four corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes. Rogers State opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but UT Tyler quickly responded to even the match.

Junior midfielder Danica Anaya provided the equalizer in the 27th minute, scoring her first goal of the season to make it a 1-1 contest. The Patriots carried that momentum into halftime, holding an 8-4 advantage in shots during the opening half.

UT Tyler continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, finishing the night with a 16-5 advantage in total shots and a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. Ella Anderson led the Patriots with five shots, including three on target, while Katie Wong added two shots on goal.

Rogers State would regain the lead in the 60th minute on a penalty kick.

The Patriots continued to search for the equalizer in the final 30 minutes. Anderson recorded three additional shots on goal in the second half, while Lily Moreno hit the woodwork in the 85th minute as UT Tyler continued to create opportunities.

The Rogers State goalkeeper finished with eight saves to keep the Patriots off the scoreboard in the second half. Robbi Curry played all 90 minutes in goal for UT Tyler and recorded two saves.

UT Tyler finished the match with five corner kicks to four for Rogers State and held an 11-8 advantage in fouls. The Patriots also registered eight shots in each half.

The Patriots will look to bounce back Wednesday when they return home to host East Central at Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
