SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The UT Tyler men's golf team sits tied for eighth place after day one of The Dewsweeper Invitational at TPC San Antonio. The Patriots posted a two-round total of 583 (+7) on Monday.
They opened the day tied with a tournament-best score of three under par (285) as a team in the morning session before carding 10 over par (298) during the second-round.Â
UT Tyler will enter Tuesday's final round tied with Georgia Southwestern as they look to make up ground with the top five teams in striking distance. Midwestern State leads the tournament at 572 (-4), while Arkansas Tech and Cameron are tied for second 573 (-3).Â
The Patriots were led by
Preston Chabaud, who put together one of the strongest performances of the day. The sophomore opened the morning session with a score of five under par (67) and finished two shots under par overall (142). He is in a tie for sixth place individually heading into the final day.
Blake Harwell and
Cash Andrus wrapped up day one with matching performances of five over par (149) and are tied for 37th.
Preston DeSerrano and
Corbin Murray tied for 46th in the field after 36 holes with a score of six over par (150).
UT Tyler was one of only three teams to post an under-par team score during the first round, and the Patriots were tied for second in par three scoring average.
Round 3 will tee off at 8 a.m. Tuesday at TPC San Antonio as the Patriots look to jump up the leader board in their season-opening event.
