DALLAS, Texas –The UT Tyler Women's Soccer program looked to knock out the number three team in the nation, as a couple of unbeaten teams in league play, took the pitch in Dallas. Coach Webb and her team battled against Dallas Baptist for 90 minutes, but an early score would prove to be the difference as the Patriots fall one to nothing.
UT Tyler moves to 3-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in Lone Star Conference play after the tightly contested match against nationally ranked DBU. The loss snaps the Patriots 5 game unbeaten streak.
DBU netted the lone goal of the evening in the 12th minute and that proved to be the difference.
UT Tyler would settle in though and continue to threaten throughout the remainder of the game. The Patriots earned back-to-back corner kicks halfway through the opening half in as they looked to tie the game back up.
The Patriots' best attacking threat came from
Ella Anderson, who led all UT Tyler players with three shots, two of which were on goal. Anderson nearly evened things up in the 67th minute as the junior, forced the DBU goalkeeper to make a save on a shot in the top right corner. The Patriots leading scorer then sent another scoring chance toward the net on the opposite side in the 75th minute but it was turned away by the keeper once again.
The depth of the UT Tyler offense showed once more in this conference matchup as seven different Patriots registered a shot.
On the defensive end,
Robbi Curry was able to settle in after the early score and ended the night with an outstanding effort between the posts. The senior goalkeeper recorded five saves, including three in the first half, adding two more after the break to keep the deficit at one.
Arianna Johnson anchored the Patriots defense playing all 90 minutes, while
Savanna Clark,
Audrey Varney, and
Samantha White helped UT Tyler hold DBU to just one goal despite facing 14 shots.
UT Tyler held the advantage in corner kicks, four to three, and saves, five to two. Five of the Patriots nine shots came from substitutions, but it was Anderson who registered shots on goal.
The Patriots are now 3-2-1 overall and 3-0-0 in Lone Star Conference play. UT Tyler will look to get back in the win column this Saturday as they host Lubbock Christian at 1 p.m. for Senior Day at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
