CANYON, TEXAS – The UT Tyler men's soccer program dropped a 3-1 decision to West Texas A&M on Saturday at The Pitch at Buffalo Sports Park in their second Lone Star Conference match of the season.
The Patriots opened their scoring in the 33rd minute when Noe Coutino converted a penalty kick to even the match at 1-1. Coutino's goal marked his third of the season.
UT Tyler entered halftime trailing 2-1 after West Texas A&M regained the lead late in the opening half. The Patriots recorded five shots in the first 45 minutes, with Coutino and Yanis Lasri each putting an attempt on goal.
West Texas A&M extended its advantage early in the second half, scoring in the 55th minute to make it a 3-1 contest. UT Tyler continued to generate opportunities throughout the final 45 minutes but was unable to close the gap.
The Patriots finished the match with nine shots, including four on goal, while earning five corner kicks. Lasri finished with two shots and one on target, while Landon Neely and Jeremiah Kanu each recorded a shot on goal. Samuel Carrias and Jamie Joyce also registered shots for the Patriots. Niclas Becker played all 90 minutes in goal for UT Tyler and made four saves.
UT Tyler moves to 2-2-4 overall and 0-1-1 in Lone Star Conference play heading into their home match on the 30th against Midwestern State.
